Evidence Based Rehabilitation - Our Response
Through recent discussions with many of our insurer / solicitor customers, it is clear that whilst rehabilitation is seen as an important, if not crucial, element in the claims process, it is essential that we find the best way to ensure that only those cases suitable for rehabilitation are put into full case management processes.
This means that the level of rehabilitation service required has to be closely examined. It is not always possible to predict the circumstances or current position regarding a client’s injury and recovery but using a number of factors we can perhaps narrow down the variables and make it less unpredictable.
With this in mind, we have undertaken a number of initiatives in recent months that through our trials have shown, can further help our customers.
a) In the first instance we have identified proven clinical pathways for the most common type of injuries that are experienced in the mid to upper range level. This is based on both our statistical evidence and experience.
b) From this, we work with you to find easy ways by which you can measure the current status of a client’s recovery and what rehabilitation service should then be provided and the implications in terms of the expected clinical and also vocational pathway.
c) We recognise that there are occasions where both parties have identified from existing medico-legal reports that there is some specific medical or equipment provision required but that a full initial needs assessment is not necessary.
As a result, we have already put into practice our Treatment Only service and Telephone Case Management service.
These new services are in recognition of the way our customers are asking us to work. They do not dilute in any way our core Full Case Management service, but actually further enhance it by supporting all rehabilitation case management pathways that you instruct us to review and support. Look out for more detailed information on our Telephone Case Management service in the next update, or please contact John Crawford for more details. More information on our new Treatment Only service is provided in this newsletter.
