Industry Updates
Focus on CMSUK: The Case Managers Society UK is undoubtedly playing a key role in raising standards in our industry. As CMSUK is a registered charity, relying on funding, we at Proclaim CARE are pleased to support this through our corporate membership and active participation. To help explain just some of the good work, two of our Case Managers have outlined their own particular Committee involvement, hopefully clarifying just some aspects of this self-regulatory body.
Events Committee: Caroline Paterson
The events committee is a key part of the improvements being made in our industry today. The committee comprises Case Managers from case management companies across the UK. It is actively involved in organising national events in the UK to raise the profile of the CMSUK and to form regional support groups in order to co ordinate Local Study Days across the country. The most recent event was the annual conference held in early May with over 100 attendees.
Education and standards of case management are to the fore in these events. CMSUK is committed to ensuring that not only our membership expands, but the members themselves receive more opportunity to share best practice, network and improve their knowledge and therefore standards of care.
PR Committee: Paula Farmer
The PR Committee promotes the role and definition of a regulated “Case Manager” and communicates through a new range of support materials and website to the Insurers and Personal Injury Lawyers as well as the General Public and Government, raising awareness of CMSUK.
One key aspect of the PR Committee’s role has been addressing the importance of a regulatory body where Case Managers can become members, obliged to provide credentials and qualifications to support their ability to be a Case manager. For the CMSUK, it is key to ensure the constitution of a “Case Manager” standard, especially as the sector expands.
In a short period of time, articles have already been carried in Post Magazine and Nursing Times as a result of the PR committee’s initiatives. This will continue as the committee build further awareness of CMSUK’s valuable role in the Professional development of Case Management Services across as many providers in the UK as possible.
